TN RAILWAY TRACK BLAST BY LTTE | RAISE OF LTTE | Passengers escape TN track blast

Villupuram (Tamil Nadu), June 12: About 1,500 train passengers had a providential escape when suspected Tamil extremists blew up the railway tracks near Villupuram, about 145 km south of Chennai, in the early hours of Saturday in protest against the recent visit of the Sri Lankan President, Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa, to India.
Slamming the Indian government and the “collaborating” TN administration for welcoming “racist” Rajapakse, an outfit calling itself the “Me-dhagu Prabhakaran Thambigal (Younger Br-others of Honourable Pra-bhakaran)” exhorted the Tamil people in a few han-dwritten Tamil pamphlets to “break the silence”.
Guard T. Rajasekaran in his little cabin at the tail end of the Salem-Chennai Express had felt a strong jolt and loud noise at about 2 am on Saturday when the train crossed Perani.
He alerted the section controller and stationmaster of the next station, who in turn cautioned the driver of the Trichy-Chennai Rockfort Express. The train drivers slowed to around 10 kmph to look for any track defect. They spotted a fracture in the track about 10 feet away and stopped the train.
