Veteran Malayalam cine actress Adoor Pankajam, who excelled in character and humour roles, died after a prolonged illness at her house at Adoor in Kollam district tonight, family sources said.

Pankajam (83) is survived by a son.

Pankajam began acting career through the stage alongwith her sister Adoor Bhavani, who died last year. The duo were known as 'Adoor sisters" on the stage as well as silver screen.

Like her elder sister, Pankajam too played several memorable roles in Malayalam cinema including that in the national award winning 'Chemmeen'.

She had acted in over 400 films and during 1970s formed a redoubtable comic couple with late Adoor Bhasi. Pankajam had been a recipient of several awards including state government's award for best supporting role.
