Causes of Inverted Nipples:

• Trauma which can be caused by conditions such as fat necrosis, scars or it may be a result of surgery

• Breast cancer including breast carcinoma, Paget’s disease and Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC)
• Breast infections or inflammations such as mammary duct ectasia, breast abscess or mastitis
• Genetic variant of nipple shape such as Weaver syndrome, Fryns- Aftimos syndrome, Chromosome 2q Deletion or
congenital disorder of glycosylation type 1A & 1 L or Kennerknecht-Sorgo-Oberhoffer syndrome

• Holoprosencephaly, recurrent infections, and monocytosis
• Pregnancy
• Tuberculosis

Is there any way that it can be corrected?
Yes, there are many ways to correct inverted nipples. One method is the plastic surgery which may in women can permanently incapacitate breastfeeding. Another method is the piercing method as the jewelry can help in preventing the nipple to invert again.
