29 july 2010 Saina Nehwal will recieve the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, the country's highest sporting honour on National Sports Day on August 29 in the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The 15-member panel on Friday took a unanimous decision to confer the current World No. 2 with the award. In this year, Saina bagged three titles, including India Open Grand Prix Gold, Singapore Open Super Series and Indonesia Open Super Series. Sania also entered the semifinal of All-England Super Series 2010 and won bronze medal at Badminton Asia Championships.
The Lok Sabha on Tuesday congratulated badminton champion Saina Nehwal for winning three Super Series badminton tournaments.Amid thumping of desks, Speaker Meira Kumar said these victories have catapulted Nehwal to Number 2 position in the world ranking which is a "unique achievement" in the history of Indian badminton.
"These achievements are a matter of national pride and source of inspiration for budding sportspersons of our country," she said.The Speaker also conveyed the best wishes of the House to Nehwal for her future endeavours.
