Paris Hilton was briefly arrested but she has since been released. Her publicist reported that she was indeed questioned by police in South Africa on allegations of smoking marijuana.MSNBC reports that she was detained by two police officers outside of the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, following the World Cup quarterfinal match between Brazil and Netherlands.
Hilton has been using Twitter to update fans on her trip to the World Cup. According to her Twitter postings, she landed in Johannesburg, South Africa in the morning on July 1.
At approximately 7pm ET, Hilton posted an update about her arrest, with a link to her longer statement that posted on TwitLonger.com, a site that allows a longer “tweet” but is not affiliated with Twitter.
Hey guys, there’s a lot of crazy rumors going around. Just want you all to know the truth. Everything is completely fine. I was not charged or arrested, cause I didn’t do anything. I was assisting the police with the investigation and answering their questions. Everyone was super nice and friendly to me. I love South Africa! So, that’s the huge scoop. Of course, gossip blogger Perez Hilton will make it an even bigger deal than it is, especially if he doesn’t have any recent pictures of Miley Cyrus’ crotch to capture the world’s attention.
