A year before the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011, Germany will be hosting another tournament, namely the U-20 Women's World Cup 2010. With this decision, taken at a meeting in Zurich on Friday, the FIFA Executive Committee chose to implement the suggestion to host U-20s tournaments in the same country and one year before future FIFA Women's World Cups. There is already a similar situation in men's football, where the FIFA Confederations Cup has been held in parallel with the final phase of a FIFA World Cup™ since 2001.
"For our Organising Committee, which was set up in January, this addition by FIFA means that we will be preparing and hosting the U-20 Women's World Cup," said German Football Association (DFB) general secretary Wolfgang Niersbach. "This therefore gives us the opportunity to have a test-run at one or more of the stadiums where the World Cup is to be hosted in 2011 and also to test some of the other organisational processes a year in advance. Additionally, we will be considering other venues."
